About Our Service

Rip Off Press, founded in January of 1969, has been offering mail order service to help fans in far-flung regions get their underground comix fix, for longer than many of our fans have been alive. We strive to provide prompt and efficient service; but we are a "Mom 'n' Pop" company and aren't able to offer Instant Gratification at the level of larger operations. Just think of it as lovingly hand-crafted mail order with human beings who are willing to be flexible and do whatever we can to help you to get what you're looking for.

Our Service Goals

We process orders once or twice a week depending on the season and order volume. After shipment, how long it takes to get to you depends on where you live. Due to outrageous surcharges levied by UPS and FedEx, we have had to discontinue offering these shipping services--so all orders are now shipped via U.S. mail by Priority or First Class in most cases (larger shipments and posters may have to go via Air Parcel Post overseas). Shipment within the U.S takes 1 to 4 days, with shipments to outside the U.S.taking from 1 to 2 weeks. Please see our information page Special Information for Customers outside the U.S. for some very important details about getting orders overseas.

Returns Policy

If you change your mind about items you've ordered after receiving them, we will accept returns on items other than video and audio tapes, and CD's. Please note that returns on tapes and CD's are limited to replacing a defective copy with another copy of the same title. For this reason, please order these items with care and make sure that the title you order is what you really want! For other items, returns should be sent to us postpaid and packed carefully to arrive in salable condition. A copy of your original invoice for the purchase of the returned item(s) should be enclosed. You will receive an exchange credit for the merchandise total of returned items, which can be used only toward purchase of other items from our catalog. Please note that we extend this service as a courtesy to our customers, and that returns cost us money. As a Mom 'n' Pop company we hope that return privileges will not be abused.

Out of Stock Items

Unfortunately our operation is too small to be able to handle back-orders. If an item you ordered is temporarily out and we're expecting it to arrive momentarily we may hold your order up to a couple of weeks waiting for it. If it has not arrived by then we'll process your order (not charging you for the missing item) and ship whatever's available. If the missing item is all you ordered and it appears we can no longer get it, you'll be notified of cancellation. If you're anxious about receiving something you ordered by a particular time, as for a birthday gift, please e-mail us with your concerns.

What to Do in Case of Order Problems:

If there is any problem with your order, probably the quickest and most effective way to deal with it is by e-mail. That way you can get through to us at your convenience, and we will see your message within a few hours at a time when we have access to all of our records. You can also call us by phone. Please call 530 885-8183 between the hours of 7 and 10 a.m. Pacific time, Monday through Friday, or in the evening after 6 p.m. We can also be reached weekends most of the time. If you reach our answering machine, please leave a clear message describing the problem and including all details, so we can try to handle it. You may also notify us of order problems by letter (P.O. Box 4686, Auburn CA 95604-4686).

TIPS FOR USING THE ONLINE CATALOG

  • To navigate the site by categories, click a category name on the home page or on the pull-down categories menu above. For most categories of merchandise, if there are more than 6 items in the category you chose, you will receive a page with back/next links to navigate through the available items. When you see an item you want, click the "ORDER" button. You can also create a page of items by entering search words in the bar above for the title or descriptive copy of an item you're looking for.
  • You can check on the status of your Cart at any time by pressing the "Shopping Cart" link in Freewheelin' Frank's word balloons above. You can change quantities on each item or remove an item by setting the quantity to "0", then pressing "Update Quantities." Or, empty your cart with the button provided and start over if you wish.
  • When you have your order looking the way you want it, press "Check Out" from the Cart page. If you're a returning customer and you haven't already logged in, you'll be given the chance to use your user name and password to log in. If you haven't already set up a customer account, you'll do it now. Fill in the form with your name, address, telephone number as they appear on your charge account billing, Visa, Mastercard, or American Express payment information, and your choice of shipping methods. If you want your order sent to a different address than the one your charge card is billed to, there is now an additional order form section available. All information is encrypted--the only "non-secure" items on the site are the images. Please be careful to enter all information correctly. Your shipping label will be generated from the information you enter. Fields which must be filled out are marked with a red asterisk.
  • If you have any problems using the online ordering system, please e-mail us saying what the problem was, what browser you are using and what you were trying to do when it happened, and we'll do whatever's necessary to help you complete your order.
  • Don't want to order online with a credit card? See "How to Order Without a Credit Card" below for instructions. This is fairly easy to do if you are in the US and somewhat harder if not.
  • We now offer only US Priority Mail/Air Mail on all shipments.
  • We have a policy limiting shipments to certain countries. See the Important Info for Out-of-U.S. Customers page for details. Please be sure to select the name of your country on the form when checking out.

How to Order Without a Credit Card

(Or use your credit card to order by Mail or Fax)
If you don't have a credit card, or if you have security issues with ordering online, you can still use our online software to generate an order.


  • Shop our online departments or use the search feature to generate an order page containing items matching your search criteria, selecting the item(s) you want.
  • When you've ordered the items you want, press "Shopping Cart" in the top frame and take a look at your order. If it's the way you want it, just print it out from your browser. After that you can dump the cart or exit the web site.
  • Add your name and address to the printout. Also please include your telephone number and e-mail address, so we can contact you if there are any questions or problems.
  • If you want to use a charge card to pay for your order, include the account number and expiration date. Charge card orders can be mailed to us or faxed.
  • You can also print out a copy of our latest in-stock list and use that to create your order. This document is updated frequently and is a full-featured order form with space for your shipping information and a list of titles and prices for all items available.
  • To calculate your order total you will need to add in Sales Tax (8.25% of your merchandise total only if you live in CALIFORNIA) and the shipping charge, which is based on the merchandise total of your order. The chart below also appears on the Cart page, so it will print out with your order. You can just circle the shipping method you want, and add the amount shown to your order total. If you're paying by check or money order, mail this amount with your order.
  • If you live outside the U.S., please read the "Information for Customers Outside the U.S." before ordering. There are only a couple of ways you can send us payment, which must be enclosed with your order, besides using a credit card.
  • Paypal: Yes, we can accept your payment via Paypal. The e-mail address for payment is mail@ripoffpress.com. E-mail us with the details of your order and when we have received notice of your payment we will process the order and ship it out.
